Independence
The Edged-Weapon Response Lab is an independent applied research initiative. Its research, analysis, findings, and editorial decisions are not directed by a law-enforcement agency, government body, advocacy organization, litigation party, or commercial entity.
Research position
The Lab does not begin from the assumption that police actions are justified or unjustified. Its work examines the available evidence, applicable research, and relevant legal framework, including evidence that supports, complicates, or contradicts competing interpretations of an incident.
Funding
The Lab discloses sources of financial or in-kind support that could reasonably be perceived as relevant to its work. The Lab is currently independently funded and receives no funding from law-enforcement agencies, police associations, advocacy organizations, litigation parties, or commercial vendors.
Conflicts of interest
Any financial, professional, personal, or organizational relationship that could reasonably be perceived as affecting a publication will be disclosed with that work. Where no relevant conflict exists, the Lab may state that no conflict has been identified.
Professional affiliations
The views expressed by the Lab are its own. Any employment, professional affiliation, advisory role, or other institutional connection of a researcher does not imply endorsement by that organization and should not be understood as representing the views of an employer or affiliated institution.
External contributions and review
Where outside experts, practitioners, organizations, or other contributors materially assist with a publication, their role will be identified where appropriate. Consultation, technical review, or provision of information does not give a contributor editorial control over the Lab’s findings.
Evidence and conclusions
Conclusions reflect the evidence available at the time of publication. The Lab distinguishes documented fact from interpretation, identifies material uncertainty where possible, and revises its work when significant new evidence or corrections warrant doing so.
